KZ Racefurlers testing new furling lock

The New Zealand based company released in a recent Facebook post a video where they are testing a new furling lock in their workshop. The video shows the testing of a 10T unit. The design of the upper part appears to be similar than the Facnor locks with a spigot shaped like a bullet with wings to guide the locking systems integrated into the top swivel.

This new furling lock will work with no trip lines, meaning that only the halyard is used to lock and unlock the device which is similar to the systems already available on the market from Facnor and Karver Systems.

Furling locks are widely popular in the offshore racing scene . No doubts this development was probably initiated in an effort to penetrate the market of the Imoca 60 given KZ Racefurlers will be the exclusive suppliers to next edition of The Race (formerly known as “The Volvo Ocean Race”) and the wish from the organizers to have a boat that can be compatible with the Imoca class in an effort to draw more entries.
